GFS PROJECTS APPOINTS NEW NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Peterborough, 3 July 2008: GFS Projects, the designers of a novel Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV), has appointed Mark Broughton as a non-executive director with particular responsibility for marketing and communications.
GFS Projects has designed the FENSTAR a highly stable surveillance platform which can take off and land from any surface whether a field, a road, desert, a slope or the deck of a ship.
“Mark brings to the company considerable experience of the defence marketplace, an understanding of the issues affecting the end user and knowledge of the types of communications that GFS needs,” said Marco Cereste, Chairman of GFS Projects.
Based in Haslemere, Surrey, Mark is a marketing and PR consultant working in the defence and aerospace sector. He started his working life as an infantry officer before moving into the defence industry as a communicator. He was subsequently involved in a number of major programmes with Racal Electronics, Short Brothers and Marconi as well as time as the PR Manager at Jane’s Information Group.
The GFS FENSTAR is a stable, circular UAV which has no exposed rotating parts which means it can fly right up to a building and even go through windows or doorways. Not only is it less expensive to build than other VTOL UAVs it is also scalable from just a few centimetres radius up to several metres.
FENSTAR can carry a range of surveillance packages for defence, agriculture or homeland defence use. It could also be used to deliver critical small packages to remote locations or as an Electronic Warfare decoy.
About GFS Projects
GFS Projects Limited was formed in 2002 to design, develop and market a new form of flying. Its Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is based on the ideas and research of Geoff Hatton – the inventor. The company secured a SMART grant from the UK Department of Trade and Industry and equity funding from a group of investors.
The first prototype, GFS7, took to the air in April 2005 and completed a figure of eight flight, inside the development building. Five patent applications covering the unique aspects of the design have been filed.
